The Introduction to the Wheel Workshop is a one-time, 3-hour class designed to introduce you to the world of ceramics and give you hands-on experience with a professional Shimpo pottery wheel. It’s the perfect opportunity for anyone curious to explore this ancient craft in a fun and practical way.
All tools, clay, and firing are included. You’ll be able to pick up your glazed and finished piece about two weeks later. Completed pieces will be held for up to one month.
Workshops take place on Saturday mornings, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Reserve your spot!
In this 3-hour introductory lesson, you’ll learn the basics of wheel throwing: how to prepare the clay, center it on the wheel, and shape simple forms. You’ll explore the fundamental techniques of wheel-thrown pottery and create your very first piece, which will then be glazed and fired in our studio.
It’s the perfect chance to discover if the wheel is right for you—or simply to enjoy a unique and creative experience!
Wear comfortable clothing. All tools, materials, and clay are provided by the studio, including a throwing apron.
Since you’ll be working with your hands and fingers, please avoid long fingernails.
All materials are included in the workshop: clay, tools, firing, and glaze. Your piece will be glazed using one of the custom glazes created by Erra Ceramica.
Can I make up the workshop if I can’t attend?
If you’re unable to attend, we recommend purchasing a gift card instead. That way, the recipient can choose the date that works best for them.
Is it suitable for someone who’s never used a wheel before?
Absolutely! This workshop is specifically designed for complete beginners who want to try the wheel and get a first hands-on experience with ceramics.
How can I pay?
Bank transfer, credit card, or PayPal.
