About me

Hello, I'm Erik, the craftsman behind Erra Ceramica.
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Milan, my quaint pottery studio is where clay comes alive.
It's not always glamorous, and it's not about perfection. It's about getting your hands dirty, making mistakes, and embrace the unexpected.
It's about the real, messy, and beautiful process of creating something unique.

Erra Studio

Whether you're here for a class or a custom piece, what I'm offering is a genuine experience, a chance to make something that means something to you. If that's what you're looking for, then you're in the right place.

My work

Rooted in the unexpected blend of Italian flair and Dutch practicality, my approach to ceramics takes inspiration from the sun-drenched hues of the Mediterranean and the clean lines of Nordic design.
Eeach finger mark and glaze inconsistency is not a flaw but a feature, a differentiating personality.

In my studio, you’ll find me wrestling with clay and glazes, trying to concoct the perfect recipe that somehow always ends up being aesthetically unpredictable.
My work tells about everyday rituals, with ceramics that are crafted to be held, not just seen. Ideal for cradling a morning coffee or a nightcap, these pieces are straightforward, functional, and charmingly askew—making each use a moment to cherish.

About Erra's Glazes

Experimentation with glaze recipes is my kind of Saturday night. While some people might find mixing chemicals and pigments less thrilling than other pursuits, there's an undeniable rush in the alchemy of creating a glaze that perfectly complements the earthy texture of clay.

Yet, when it comes to the integrity of my glazes, there's a line where charm ends and pragmatism begins. Imperfections have their place, but not at the expense of quality. It’s mandatory to ensure durability and stability, making sure glazes stand the test of time (and dishwashers). They're crafted to endure, not to become a relic after a few meals.

I'll never compromise on hygiene or maintenance. It's crucial that every piece can be wiped clean, and most of all that it does not leach substances. And about fitting, the glaze and clay need to get along like old friends, perfectly matched to prevent any dramatic exits like shivering or dunting. This meticulous attention to detail ensures my ceramics are fully functional, ready for the rigors of daily use.

After all, the true beauty of a piece lies not just in its appearance but in its ability to be a part of our daily lives, imperfections included, without faltering in function.
